Abstract: |
With rapid urbanization and industrialization, modern city residents
are increasingly far away from the natural environment, and urban parks have
become an important place for residents to contact nature. The public health
benefits of urban parks and green spaces have been widely confirmed by
relevant studies at home and abroad. Currently, the research on public health
has changed from physical health to multidimensional health requirements,
of which mental health is an important component. Parks and green
spaces bring good restorative experiences to the population, helping to
relieve mental stress and less fatigue and bad moods. Reduced stress and
restored concentration are important indicators of the restorative benefits of
green spaces. With global climate change and the frequent occurrence of
extreme weather, microclimate thermal comfort-related topics are receiving
increasing attention in green spaces and health. Thermal comfort is closely
related to public health and significantly impacts individual residents' physical
and mental health. In the past, domestic and international studies have
made significant progress in outdoor thermal comfort, focusing on model
evaluation and practical application scenarios in different climatic regions,
urban environments, and weather conditions. However, the research often
focuses on objective meteorological conditions, physiological responses,
and other related aspects. Residents' complex behavioral patterns and
psychological mechanisms in outdoor activities have yet to be thoroughly
studied. This research direction is of positive significance for the discipline
of landscape architecture to provide the public with a more humanized and
comfortable outdoor environment design. Meanwhile, green space thermal
environment research has fully demonstrated the significant role of green
space in mitigating the urban heat island effect, improving the surrounding
microclimate, and providing a better thermal comfort experience for the
surrounding residents, which provides new perspectives for enhancing
the comfort of residents' outdoor activities, which in turn affects the level
of health and well-being. However, there still needs to be more clarity
regarding the exact impact of outdoor thermal comfort on the health
restoration benefits of green spaces, which may pose some limitations
to the practical application of green space restorative research results in
climate change. Therefore, more in-depth and comprehensive studies on
the effects of outdoor thermal comfort on the health restorative benefits of
green spaces are needed to provide a scientific basis for developing urban
green spaces. In current empirical studies, thermal comfort evaluation
mainly focuses on quantifying physical and physiological factors, with the
objective thermal index as the main index, but often ignores psychological
factors. The research on the impact of the thermal comfort of green space
on the restorative benefits of green space still needs to be stronger, and the
existing studies only preliminarily point out that improving thermal comfort
benefits physical and mental health. However, further in-depth studies are
still needed on the impacts of different climatic zones, different types of
green space, and the effects of subjective and objective thermal comfort on
the restorative benefits. Based on the above considerations, this study takes
Guangzhou as an example and considers the importance of the outdoor
thermal environment in influencing the healthy restorative properties of green
spaces and utilizes a combination of actual environmental stimuli, pre-and
post-test control experiments, objective thermal environment measurements,
and questionnaires to investigate the restorative benefits of the three types
of green space scenarios in the context of hot and humid regions, as well as
the mechanisms associated with thermal comfort. The study aims to propose
thermal comfort optimization suggestions from a more comprehensive
perspective to enhance the health restorative benefits of park green spaces.
The results indicate that short-term exposure to green scenes such as forests
and lawns in parks helps to alleviate stress and improve restorative benefits.
The objective thermal environment indirectly affects the restorative benefits
of green scene exposure by influencing subjective thermal environment
evaluations and thermal comfort conditions. The conclusions provide a
theoretical basis for enhancing the restorative benefits of park green spaces
in hot and humid regions. |
