Nature, Ornament and Texture: The Three Facets of Complexity |
ZHU Yufan |
Abstract: |
With the acceleration of contemporary social development,
temporal compression enriches the spatial perceptions of human beings,
therefore presenting an increasingly hybrid and diverse situation.
Complexity is a unique status of contemporary society, as well as an
inevitable trend of the expansion of Anthropocentric. It is necessary for
landscape architectural design to make an active response to this age
characteristics from both the layer of design consciousness and the layer
of design technology. "Nature", "ornament" and "texture", the three
design issues which derived from and clarified through design process,
are regarded as opportunities to construct landscape architectural design
theory towards complexity. "Nature" corresponds to the contemporary
construction and developments of basic values in landscape architecture;
"ornament" corresponds to the construction of historical relationship
and natural relationship; "texture" corresponds to the construction
of experiential synaesthesia. This paper illustrates the methodology
of research through design (RTD), especially with the retrospect on
scenarios that trigger them into design propositions, on the design concept
generation based on repeated discussion and update between on-site
construction and ruminating reflection, and on design technology aiming
to present the thickness of landscape, therefore, forming the theoretical
essence which expands the cognition of landscape architectural design. |
